Susan and I will be traveling this weekend checking on parents and visiting with some dear friends who are in from California. We’ll miss you all greatly but you are in wonderful hands with Mark Robnett’s teaching. Mark and Susan have been such a blessing to me and I know Mark’s heart is to see us moved to ACTION by James chapter 4.

Reminder to all men: Mark will be hosting another Men’s Bible Study on this coming Thursday the 27th at their home. He’ll have more on this tomorrow morning.

Don’t be “back row” Baptists – I LOVE our new room assignment (thanks Paul Hahn) because not only is the temperature cooler (might even bring a sweater ladies), there is room to grow! After a first Sunday in the space I’ve made a couple of observations:

We will have to be diligent to make sure the seating is closer to the podium so the teacher doesn’t lose the great engagement I have with this class.
In the old room if you sat on the back row it was still close…we need to avoid being “back row” Baptists. Encourage all to sit closer to the front and leave the back rows for growth.
We’ll use “back row” and spare seats to form the Care Groups in the corner and keep as much of the front row in tact
I’m challenged by all those beautiful, empty seats in the new space. Let’s get busy personally inviting friends to visit us. More on this in weeks to come.

Next Sunday for 5th Sunday –

We’ll have a time of fellowship and testimony. I’ll be inviting anyone who feels led to share a brief (one minute or less) testimony of how God is working in your life. Then we’ll allow a generous amount of our time for Jason Shawa to share his testimony. Jason has shared with me and I assure you it will be a blessing to hear what God has done in Jason and Charlene’s life. Lori Kennedy will share a song with us and I’ll wrap us up with some thoughts as we reflect on our study in the book of James.

Psalms – In our next quarter of Bible Study we will take up the Psalms. I can’t wait to dip into this deep well!

Volunteers – We’ve talked about and been praying for a few key volunteers including leaders for another Care Group. The response has been tepid. I plan to do some personal approaches on this so please pray further about your willingness to help.

Class Calendar Notifications – The new online Class Calendar (here: http://tinyurl.com/klkubd ) will send email notifications for class socials and events. If you’d like to receive these please send me an email reply and we’ll set this up.

Love Loud – Your Leadership Team has already been reviewing the list of opportunities for Love Loud and will submit our first, second, and third choices to Craig Ormsby. More on this to come.

Leadership Team Meeting NEXT SUNDAY August 30th – 11 a.m. in the Prayer Room next to the Sunday School office in the A building. The online calendar has it for THIS Sunday because normally it’s the 4th Sunday but it is INDEED the 30th.

• 8:00 to 8:10 Fellowship Time (10 Minutes)
  • (At 8:09 a signal occurs …signaling time to move into Care Groups and begin)

• 8:10 to 8:25 Care Group Time (15 Minutes)
  • (At 8:23 the signal occurs again & Care Group Leaders have TWO MINUTES)

• 8:25 to 8:30 Announcements (5 Minutes)
  • At 8:25 Care Groups quietly move into the classroom configuration.

• 8:30 to 8:40 Outreach or Missions Time (10 Minutes)

• 8:40 to 9:10 (or 9:15 if needed) Lesson (30 to 35 minutes)

• Closing Prayer

I really enjoyed our time together today as we studied James 2:1-13 this morning! What a convicting lesson:  What if we took the comma away in Verse 1 of Chapter Two?  It would read like a statement of fact: “Believers in Christ DON’T SHOW FAVORITISM.”

What a joy to have new members of our class – Roger and Lisa Harman.  Please make them feel warmly welcomed!  We’re also grateful for our visitors!  Keep inviting folks to come.

There’s much for us all to be reminded of:

August 16^th will be a big Sunday as we move to a new classroom LL (Lower Level) B.  That’s also the official start of our new time at 8 a.m.  However, we’re already working to shift to the new time in advance of that.  Would you make an effort to come at the new time starting next Sunday?

We will also do a realignment of Care Groups on August 16th.  Look below for the specifics on that.

Thats a great segue to…

Volunteer Needs: Some volunteer help in updating the website.  Also with manning the computer for streaming on Sunday morning.  Finally, a volunteer to type up and email the prayer requests from Care Groups to the whole class each week.  Let me know if you have an interest in any of these.

We also really need to “birth” a new Care Group so that we can keep them small enough to accommodate growth in members.  Would you pray with us and ask God if He might be leading you into this ministry role?

As we said last week we plan to gather the prayer requests from each Care Group and email those (or post on the blog) each week.  Look for them shortly. We feel this will keep the whole class even more connected to pray for each other…an important thing!

We are discussing plans for a Family Christmas Celebration (Social) and are looking for a couple of volunteers who might be interested in helping to plan this.  We’ll discuss more about this.

Care Group Realignment

We periodically change up the members of Care Groups. We plan to do this again beginning on August 16th (the first Sunday in our new location).

Questions:
• Why do we do this? Simply to give class members an opportunity to meet and share the prayer needs of more class members as time passes.
• Do I have to move to a new group? No. If you’d like to remain in your current group you may certainly do so. Just let your Care Group leader know.
• If you have any other questions please contact Steve & Cristi Rice.
